5 cool video ads from November

By Stefano on 9 December 2011

Following our 'Most viewed video ads' post last month, we present to you some of November's most shared and viewed video ads. There are many good ads, but these are the ones we thought stood out.

Call of Duty 3: Modern Warfare - Vet vs n00b

Again, videogames dominate views and shares. This time, Activision's Call of Duty leads with a whopping 17 million views and repeated plays on national television. The ad features Superbad's Jonah Hill as the n00b and Avatar's Sam Worthington as the Vet. Hill plays/shoots like a beginner, well, a n00b, and Worthington plays an experienced combat veteran. The two comically stereotype the type of players Call of Duty attracts, and by the end of the video, the n00b is as good as the vet. The ad features plenty of action and humour, making FPS gamers whip out their controllers.

Grand Theft Auto V

With global recognition, as well as waves of criticism, Rockstar's biggest franchise hit the web through a 1:25 teaser video.  The video attracted 9 million views, but what's interesting about it is the way the web went crazy upon it's release. Hashtags, news sites and social networks were going berserk with the GTAV hashtag. The video introduces us to the newest game world, Los Santos, based on Los Angeles.

Samsung: The next big thing

With over 4 million views in just three weeks, Korean company Samsung released this ad for its Galaxy SII. The ad previewed the phones key features, design and.... made fun of Apple fans. It's set outside an Apple Store where people are queuing up for the iPhone 4S prior to its release. The people in the queue were depicted as hipsters and 'cool' people, who notice a girl using the Galaxy SII. They were clearly impressed by the device's large screen and 4G speeds, but refuse to accept that it's features beat the iPhone's. Some of the notable quotes include "I could never get a Samsung - I'm creative!"

John Lewis: Christmas

With over 3 million views on YouTube and regular airtime on national television, the John Lewis ad didn't fail to bring out the 'awww's'. The ad received criticism in some papers regarding its £6 million cost, and some will argue that it's worth the money. The ad follows a young boy who can't wait for Christmas Day. He resorts to casting spells and sleeping early to speed up time, but is unable to. On the 25th of December, he jumps out of bed and runs past his own bag of gifts to give his parents the present he bought them. The ad then ends with "For gifts you can't wait to give".

Nokia Lumia: Deadmau5 light show at Millbank Tower
This isn't a full ad, but it's awesome. Nokia launched it's new flagship smartphone, the Lumia 800, through an overwhelming lightshow on the whole Millbank Tower with music from Deadmau5. The whole building lit up with crazy animations that brought the London skyline to life. The show ended with a projection of the new phone and the tagline "The amazing everyday".  The video has over 1.5 million views and has been live for a week.
