Facebook invites user comments on policy changes, Tumblr unveils brand ads, Google AdWords for YouTube exits beta & Vogue Spain rips off photographer on Instagram
Facebook invites users to comment on new policy changes
Were you lucky enough to receive a notification from Facebook, telling you that comments have been re-opened for its Statement of Rights and Responsibilities (SRR) section? Messages were sent to over 2000 users who previously Liked the Facebook Governance page, informing them that they have until the 27th April to leave a comment.
If enough comments are made about certain issues, Facebook is open to calling a vote. If you want your voice heard, now's a good chance to head on over to Facebook. <
Tumblr to allow brands to advertise on user dashboards
Previously rejecting the idea of brand-led advertising on the Tumblr Dashboard, founder David Karp changed his mind and announced that brands can now advertise on Tumblr from 2nd May. Karp called himself an 'idiot' for opposing the strategy, as many brands already have 'branded' pages on the microblogging network.
Brands will be able to pay for ads to appear on the right-hand column of the user dashboard, which is where users see their content feeds.
Google AdWords for YouTube exits beta
Adwords for video is now open to all advertisers after exiting beta - great ready for more ads. According to YouTube, video ads are bringing 20% increased traffic to websites, and a 5% increase in searches for businesses. Google elected 10 brand ambassadors of the service to showcase how video ads were effective in driving traffic. To encourage sign-ups, Google will be giving away $50m in free Google AdWords to new advertisers.
Vogue Spain caught stealing photos for its Instagram account
Sion Fullana, a Spanish New York-based street photographer, was not happy when he found out his photos were being posted by Vogue Spain's Instagram account. The Instagram account took credit for the photos and mislabelled them to avoid suspicion - a photo that was taken in New York was passed off as Paris.
The photographer is scheduled to have a chat with Vogue Spain's social media team to resolve what Sion dubbed as 'Instagramgate'. He also made his Instagram profile private since the fiasco, despite having over 72,000 followers.
