UK the most 'internet-based major economy'
According to the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), the internet contributes to 8.3% of the UK economy, more than any other G20 country. This is expected to grow by 11% per year for the next 4 years.

Online retail leads with around 13.5% of all purchases done over the internet in 2010, which is expected to reach 23% by 2016.

Portal 2 wins Best Game at BAFTAs
Portal 2 beat the likes of Uncharted 3, Skyrim, Batman, Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty to win the Best Game, Design and Story awards at this year's BAFTAs. The game, developed and published by Valve, is based on the Half Life universe and stars Stephen Merchant as the robot Wheatley. Battlefield 3 managed to win the GAME Award of 2011 for its multiplayer elements. The full list of winners can be found here.

Mobile devices make us read more news
Key findings from the State of the News Media 2012 report showed that news consumption has gone up thanks to smartphones and tablets. People who read on desktops are likely to also read from the same source on a mobile device, and vice versa. The overall frequency and time spent on reading is significantly increasing as people now have access to their news sources on multiple devices wherever they are.

Google search to get major overhaul
Google will begin updating its core search engine in the coming months, with the aim of presenting users with facts and direct answers to their queries. Instead of thousands of links, search results could come in the form of short answers, as part of Google's 'semantic search technology'.
